Why did my fish get dropsy?

A fish with dropsy is an indication that their gills and/or kidneys are not working properly, which can be caused by many different fish issues, including bacterial infections, viruses, diet, cancer and even poor water quality!
The following symptoms may be observed: Swelling of the abdomen. Eyes that are beginning to swell and bulge. Scales that starting to point outward instead of lying flush with their body giving a “pinecone” appearance.

KanaPlex™ is a blended kanamycin based medication that safely and effectively treats several fungal, and bacterial fish diseases (dropsy, popeye, fin/tail rot, septicemia). Because it is absorbed by fish it is useful in treating internal infections in those situations where food is refused.
Treatment. Dropsy is not easily cured. Treatment is geared toward correcting the underlying problem and providing supportive care to the sick fish. A broad spectrum antibiotic specifically formulated for gram-negative bacteria is recommended, like Mardel Maracyn® 2.

Should I flush my dying fish?
