Dive knife – a stainless steel or titanium knife, usually with a sharp cutting edge and a serrated (sawing) edge. They range in size from very compact to large. Dive tool – a dive knife with the sharp tip replaced with a prying tool. Dive shears – scissors, good for cutting monofilament line.
A dive knife is a tool that divers may need to use to cut fish lines that have become entangled around marine life – or to knock on tanks to get a buddy’s attention. They’re essential for wreck diving as tangled ropes and underwater plants are often encountered and need to be released.
This could be the shortest post of our blog. After all, according to certifying agencies like PADI, SSI or other scuba diving organizations, there is only one scuba diving age restriction. You can begin to dive when you are 8 years old, and there is no maximum age. That’s right!
What is the golden rule of scuba diving?
1. Never hold your breath. This is undoubtedly by far the most crucial of all safety rules for diving because failure to adhere could result in fatality. If you hold your breath underwater at the depths at which scuba divers reach then the fluctuating pressure of air in your lungs can rupture the lung walls.
What should you never do while scuba diving?
Never hold your breath while ascending. Your ascent should be slow and your breathing should be normal. Never panic under water. If you become confused or afraid during a dive, stop, try to relax, and think through the problem.
Where do divers wear their knife?
Dive knives can be worn in any number of configurations. The most popular ways are strapped to your leg, attached to your BC, or hooked onto your inflator hose. Usually, if you are wanting a larger knife, you will wear it strapped to the outside of your shin or thigh.
Should I carry a knife while snorkeling?
It can be a useful safety tool if you accidentally get caught by an abandoned fishing net or find a sea turtle you need to rescue, but I don’t recommend carrying sharp tools if you are a beginner who is not 100% comfortable in the water because you can injure yourself or others.
While underwater, you cannot be as efficient with your hands as above the water, but having a tool such as a diving knife can be effectively used for releasing yourself, a fellow diver, or even an animal from entanglement. There have been many numerous cases of divers getting caught in lines.

Why do dive knives have blunt tips?
A blunt tip is great if you don’t plan to use your knife for stabbing and piercing. It makes the knife safer and prevents you from accidentally puncturing the hoses, exposure suits or BCDs. In addition to that, blunt tip knives can be used for digging, hacking, and chiseling.
How do Marines carry knife?
Marines hold the knife close to the body, between the belt and chest area. This allows for the retention of the knife and prevents an opponent from wrestling it away. Knife fighting means keeping your knife in your hand. Your non-dominant arm protects the neck, head, and ribs.

What knife do cowboys carry?
The cowboys of yore nearly all carried a folding pocketknife. They were called “Stockman’s Knives” and usually had three blades. You can still find these useful tools and I can usually find one in my pocket. You may not cut yourself out of a wreck with one, but for opening a bag of fritos they’re perfect!
