What will eat fish poop? What Fish Eats Fish Poop. There are several species of fish that are thought to eat the poop or feces of other aquarium inhabitants; some of these so-called poop-eaters are the plecos, corydoras, shrimp, and snails.

How cold is too cold for koi fish? Koi are cold-water fish but thrive in water temperatures between 59-77 degrees Fahrenheit. Because their metabolism reacts to the temperature of the water that they live in, you’ll want to be sure your pond has both shallow areas as well as spaces that are deep enough so it does not freeze to the bottom.

Is it OK for koi to eat algae? A koi fish’s ability to help eat algae often is overlooked as a benefit. Algae is not the favorite food of koi, but in the absence of other (tastier) food, koi will eat algae and plants as part of their diet; especially during winter months as food is more scarce.

Do you need air pump if you have filter? Not necessarily. Some types of filters – such as hang-on-back and canister filters – use an electric motor to move water and do not work with an air filter. However, air-driven filtration devices – such as sponge and undergravel filters – use air to move the water and therefore require an air pump.

Will my fish be OK without a heater? Some fish are able to survive in a bit cooler water. However, there are some fish that are extremely sensitive to temperature, for example angelfish are very sensitive, and I don’t think they would survive. I have had fish such as guppies and neon tetras that were able to survive for a couple days without a heater.
