How does a steam boat work?

When heat is applied to the boiler, water in the boiler evaporates, producing steam. The expanding steam is suddenly pushed out of the boiler, making a “pop” sound, and pushes some of the water out of the exhaust tube, propelling the boat forward. The boiler is now dry, and cannot, therefore, generate any more steam.
This is a toy ship made from a plastic sheet (out of an old file). If you build it carefully, It doesn’t sink for a long long time.
How does a candle powered boat work?
How do they work? A heat source (small candle, or cooking oil and wick) heats the water in the boiling chamber, creating a brief burst of steam that is expelled through the pipes in the rear of the boat. The force of the expanding gas (steam) pushes the boat forward.
The two pipes are initially primed with water and the base of the chamber heated, using a candle. The diaphragm begins to vibrate and the boat moves forward making the characteristic putt-putt sound.

Using the plastic dropper, (usually supplied with new boats) squirt water into the boats exhaust pipes until full.
Put the boat into the water carefully, making sure that the water stays in the boiler.

Help your child tape the two water bottles side by side to the bottom of the cardboard.
Cut out a triangle and cover that with duct tape as well.

How do boats float?
They float thanks to the displacement of water and the resulting upward force created by that displacement. Since a boat’s density is much lighter than the ocean’s density, a little upward force is all it takes to stay floating. Even for the heaviest of ships! And that’s how you float a boat!
