How do I use my fishing rod?
by
Use your dominant hand to press the button on your reel. Keep your line taut as you bring the lure back and drop the tip of the rod. In a single swooping motion, raise the tip of the rod to pull the lure from your non-dominant hand. Use your thumb to slow down the line to ensure you don’t go past your short distance.
Start with an arm’s length of 30- to 50-pound monofilament fishing line as a leader. Tie four 2- to 3-inch dropper loop knots 3 to 4 inches apart. Attach a sinker to the bottom loop using one of your fishing knots. Tie a hook to each of the two middle loops.
Relax and let the drag and rod do the work. Just keep the fishing rod up at about a 45-degree angle to the water, aim it straight towards the fish, and be ready to reel when the drag stops moving and buzzing. When the fish slows down and stops taking line off your reel, it’s time to go to work.
What action should my rod be?
For the most part, all of the rods with a fast action variation will be the most sensitive, and these are better for lures where contact with the bottom is critical. Moderate actions bend further down into the rod and create a more significant arc when fighting fish and retrieving lures.

What is the difference between a casting rod and a spinning rod?
Spinning rods only wear spinning reels, so the reel seat and guides are below the rod. By contrast, casting rods can only be paired with casting reels, so you’ll find the reel seat and guides above the blank.
Spinning rods don’t require as many guides as a casting reel, as the line on a spinning reel is pulling “below” the rod when you are fishing. Spinning rods are often the best type to start with for casting baits, as they are less prone to tangles for inexperienced casting.
