Do fishes breathe air?

Instead of breathing air, fish must get their oxygen from the water. This process requires large volumes of water to pass through absorption surfaces to get enough oxygen into their bodies using their mouths and gills. These body parts work like a pump to keep water moving over the gas absorption surfaces of the gills.
Like us, fish also need to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide in order to survive. But instead of lungs, they use gills. Gills are branching organs located on the side of fish heads that have many, many small blood vessels called capillaries.
Do fishes sleep?
While fish do not sleep in the same way that land mammals sleep, most fish do rest. Research shows that fish may reduce their activity and metabolism while remaining alert to danger. Some fish float in place, some wedge themselves into a secure spot in the mud or coral, and some even locate a suitable nest.
As well as getting water through osmosis, saltwater fish need to purposefully drink water in order to get enough into their systems. Where their freshwater counterparts direct all of the water that comes into their mouths out through their gills, saltwater fish direct some into their digestive tract.
Why fishes do not have lungs?
Fishes have gills as the respiratory system. They take in oxygen-rich water through their mouths and pump it over their gills. Blood present inside the network of capillaries is picked up by the dissolved oxygen as water passes over the gill filaments.
Which fish contain lungs?

Throughout the world, there are only 6 species of lungfish—one in South America, one in Australia and four in Africa. The Australian (or Queensland) lungfish is the most primitive out of the bunch with only a single lung, compared to the paired lungs the others have.
Why do fish not need lungs?
Humans and fish both require oxygen to survive. The difference is, we get our oxygen through air while fish get it through water. With humans, the lungs extract oxygen from the air we breathe and transfer it into the bloodstream, at the same time releasing carbon dioxide from the system.
Do fish have brains?
Fish typically have quite small brains relative to body size compared with other vertebrates, typically one-fifteenth the brain mass of a similarly sized bird or mammal.
What is the IQ of a fish?
There is no way to get conclusive evidence that one fish is the smartest. What is the IQ of a goldfish? Their IQ lies between 30 and 40. If you’re comparing their IQ to conventional standards, it is not very high, especially when a freshwater salmon has an IQ as high as 130.
Most male fish have two testes of similar size. In the case of sharks, the testes on the right side is usually larger. The primitive jawless fish have only a single testis, located in the midline of the body, although even this forms from the fusion of paired structures in the embryo.
Do fish cry?
No, fishes can’t cry and can’t produce tears.
It is often thought that fish may lack the limbic system, but in reality, fishes do have a limbic system, but they lack the biological machinery to produce tears.
Do fishes poop?
So, how do fish expel their feces? Well most of them will expel their feces through an anal vent (also called a cloaca), which is simply an opening for all wastes to leave the body. This includes not only feces but also urine, reproduction, and sometimes eggs or sperm if needed.
Do fish like to be in the dark?
Fish don’t like the dark because when there is no light to see, they dart around the tank, colliding with the walls, ornaments and can even become tangled in the plants. Fish need light to determine whether it is night or day, and they’re scared of the sudden switch from darkness to light.
Can a fish sneeze?
Answer: Fish cannot sneeze; in order to sneeze you must be able to breathe, to breathe you have to have lungs and nasal passages. They don’t have lungs, they have oxygen transference in their gills.
Do spiders cough?
That’s funny to think about, but the answer is no. All of those reactions take place only in breathing systems that are similar to ours. Insects breathe through tiny holes in the skin, so they have no reason to sneeze, cough, or hiccup.
Fish yawn, cough, and even burp. But they don’t get choked up.
Is there a fish that cries like a baby?
The key to the toadfish’s talkativeness is its unusual swim bladder. This gas-filled organ is normally used to keep the animal buoyant, but a nearby muscle can make it resonate and so double as an organ of vocalisation.
Do sharks cry?
Although sharks cannot cry, they may display different emotional cues such as isolating themselves from a group or making “crying sounds”, depending on the species.
