They don’t have a penis, as such. Instead, they have modified a fin into a penetrating organ called a gonopodium. These penis-ish organs are tipped with an unpleasant set of claws, hooks ridges and spines.
Perhaps not surprisingly birds have a very different reproductive system from mammals. Instead of a penis and a vagina most male and female birds both have an internal chamber called the cloaca, sometimes known as the vent.
What is cloacal kiss?
In typical bird copulation, males and females momentarily press together their cloacas – genital openings – in what biologists call a cloacal kiss.

Instead, they shoot sperm into a female bird’s body through an exit called a cloaca. The absent bird penis is a head-scratcher for scientists who study animal reproduction.

Having 3 males is a definite advantage if you want them all to get along. Male budgies are of a friendlier disposition when compared to females. Usually the new bird will get picked on initially. Budgies are flock birds but still need to establish a hierarchy within the flock.
Why do you cover a parakeet cage at night?
On average, birds need about 12 hours of good, quality sleep each night to remain in peak condition. Much like people, their rest periods can be disturbed by noise and bright light. For this reason, many owners choose to cover their birds at night.
Do parakeets like music?
Not only do parakeets love to dance to music, but they will bop along to ambient noises. You can see this in the many examples of parakeets (also known as budgerigars or budgies) dancing to music on YouTube. However, you will need to bear in mind that this behavior will depend on the individual parakeet.
Is it cruel to keep parakeets in a cage?
Like dogs on chains, caged birds crave freedom and companionship, not the cruel reality of forced solitary confinement for the rest of their very long lives. Driven mad from boredom and loneliness, caged birds often become aggressive and self-destructive.
