Colder water can kill the betta, as the betta’s immune system will slow and make them susceptible to disease. Hotter water can make them uncomfortable and age quickly, as their metabolism will increase. The temperature should be maintained with a heater. Betta fish should also be kept in a tank with a filter.
Most betta fish will sink when they die, so if you see your betta resting at the bottom of the tank, this may be a cause for concern. Bettas that are floating unnaturally at the surface of the water may not be dead, but instead suffering from swim bladder disorder.

Water changes can cause your pet to go into shock, especially if the aquarium is small. The problem is that the previous water had particular chemistry levels that the fish had acclimated to after a while. Changing out a large quantity of that water can cause your Betta die easily from shock.
If you brought your fish home and it dies within a few days, there is a possibility it was sick when you bought it. Unfortunately, this is a very common problem since conditions at chain pet stores are usually awful. When looking for a new fish, make sure everything in the tank is swimming strong and normal.

Just bury him if you like, or gently put him in your trash inside a little plastic baggie. Personally, I prefer burying (more natural) but I’ve done both. I’m so sorry your fish died.
How long does it take for a betta to get used to a new tank?
A ten gallon aquarium makes a great home for a Betta. Give it a few days at least to allow your fish to adjust. In most cases they will be back to normal within a week.
Do bettas get stressed when put in a new tank?

To acclimate your betta to a new tank, start by placing it in a clear bag with some water from its old tank. Next, place the bag on top of the water in the new tank for 15 minutes so it can slowly acclimate to the temperature.

Do Bettas like light?
Bettas like light so that they know when to wake up and prefer a darker environment to sleep in. You may have an aquarium light on your tank and if so, it is probably best for you to turn this on when you wake up in the morning and turn it off just before bedtime.
Do LED lights hurt bettas?
You may find most aquarium lights are LED; these work great. Some large or professional aquariums use UVB or others , but if you’re planning to keep your betta in a basic aquarium with standard aquarium plants, LED will do fine.
How often should bettas be fed?
It is recommended to feed your betta fish two to four pellets, once or twice per day. Pellets expand when placed in water and are very filling for your betta fish. Freeze-dried or fresh food can be substituted for their pellet feeding 1 to 2 days per week.
LED lights are actually quite good for your betta! As well as providing a light that isn’t too strong for your betta, they don’t give off a lot of heat either. This means you don’t have to worry about the tank becoming too hot or water evaporating too fast!
How cold is too cold for betta fish?
Their ideal temperature is between 78-80°F. However, they can survive in temperatures as warm as 85°F and as cold as 76°F. Below 74°F is when you’ll begin to notice the effects of temperature shock affecting your betta rapidly, and above 86°F he’ll begin slowly roasting to death in the water.
